First Managine Zone Diet Challenge: Why Zone Diet is not recommended

by Alex on July 31, 2008

According to Jimmy Moore, the blogger from “Livin’ la Vida Low-Carb’”, Zone Diet is teaming up with First Magazine to feature success stories from those who successfully lose weight with Zone diet and fish oil supplements. According to Jimmy, to qualify the challenge, you have to meet these requirements:
“- You MUST be female.
- You MUST be willing to reveal before and after photos.
- Your story MUST include your testimony about the Zone diet/fish oil.”

Zone diet has gained a lot of attentions in recent years as many A list celebrities endorsed the program. In case you are wondering, Zone diet is a diet plan developed by Dr. Barry Sears. The Zone diet is based on the theory that excess insulin will make you fat. If you keep your insulin level in the “zone”, your body will burn fat more efficiently and results in weight loss. To achieve the “zone”, your daily food intake needs to be in following ratio: 40% carbohydrate, 30% protein, and 30% fat.

1. Zone diet is complicated to follow. The concepts of Zone diet sound simple, but it is not easy and requires a lot of patience to follow through. In fact, I highly doubt if you can follow the diet religiously if you have busy office life.
2. Investment: you may need to spend small fortune on customized meals, Zone diet book, measuring scales and spoons.
3. Not a long term strategy: for most people, it is simply impossible to follow Zone diet for long term. Can you imagine counting the “zone blocks” for every meal for the rest of your life?

Verdict: In a nutshell, the diet is quite low in calories and I suspect that’s why most people lost weight with Zone diet. Just follow these 2 simple rules and I GUARANTEE you will lose weight: exercise more and eat less.
